The shops, restaurants and cafes will feature in a fun, joyful day with the community and visitors. It includes music, special festival menus, offerings and discounts for the community and visitors. Also on display is work from Wood That Works that offers a nurturing background for people to learn a range of traditional carpentry skills. Tucked under the Whittington Estate, this community enterprise overlooks Highgate Cemetery and provides a peaceful learning environment for people of all backgrounds and ages.
Also on display will be information about local Pink Plaques. As it happens, there are four pink plaque holders near Highgate Road and Swains Lane with local associations. These include Baroness Angela Burdett-Coutts, wealthy philanthropist who owned Holly Lodge Estate, Harriot Mellon, the actress who married the Duke of St Albans after the death of husband Thomas Coutts (Baroness Angela Burdett-Coutts’ grandfather) – hence the name of the street and the pub sign, Stella Gibbons journalist and author (Cold Comfort Farm) who lived on Holly Lodge Estate for 50 years and is buried in Highgate Cemetery and Felicity Sparrow one of the founders of Circles – an empowering women’s experimental film distribution network in 1979 who lived in Holly Lodge Mansions.
